The SQL BizComponent for select operation, does not return the number of records as an accessible value (whereas the delete operation does make the number of records deleted available) since the result is the record set returned. You might want to post a feature request on our SourceForge Tracker, for a "row count" feature.

There are many ways to get the number of results (records returned). In many cases, you can simply apply the xa:count instruction on a parent element containing the returned records, or you could use an XPath expression with the count() function. If you are modifying the result (deleting some returned elements) before the results get back to the parent record, then you could use a session variable (See functoids in the Help) xa:row_template to count each record processed by the BizComp. You could also include a Sequence Functoid or an "index" column in the result using a database feature such as Oracle rowid, which would effectively number each record (total count being the last record index if starting at 1). Or you could execute a separate "select count(*)" query before/after your query to count the records being selected (assuming no intervening inserts).

In XAware 5.4, we no longer have an MQ BizComp, because we send and receive to MQ using the JMS BizComp. Refer to this post for information on an MQ configuration that bypasses JNDI: Re:BizDriver for ActiveMQ
