Migrate Exchange Public Folders to SharePoint Online by voconnor

We've been discussing some of our recent successes with migrating on-premise and cloud-based CRM data to the cloud with you in this blog. A few weeks ago, we completed a migration of Microsoft® Exchange server public folders to SharePoint® Online, a Microsoft hosted cloud platform. In the process, we learned a lot and we now offer this as a new XAware managed service.

First, why would you want to complete a similar migration? There are several reasons, but the most immediate is to reduce Exchange spending. By initiating our managed service, you can take advantage of this spending reduction even if you don't have the time or IT staff to devote to a migration.

In a recent blog post, Nic Archer wrote, “SharePoint 2010 is being received well, but it won’t solve many of the issues faced by enterprises unless a clear strategy for uograde (sic) is adopted and the required process of content migration is carried out properly. ”

During our own migration, we discovered that the Microsoft API does not allow the successful migration of permissions objects. We found this to be a fundamental flaw and we're working to get in touch with the right person at Microsoft to change that. In the meantime, however, if you're running into the same problem, you can turn to us to solve it in your environment.

The managed service we built includes the following features over and above other migration solutions:

  • mapping of additional objects and fields (such as those left out of the APIs)
  • the ability to create new data and then enrich that data with objects from additional sources

  • the ability to update data after the initial migration

Our solution is delivered as a managed service, and so we provide a manually assisted method for your permissions. Click for more information about XAware's SharePoint migration solution.
