Migrating Salesforce Data to Microsoft Dynamics CRM in the Cloud by voconnor

First, let's start by saying that this data move is no reflection on Salesforce. We've had an XAware Salesforce connector for years and we've helped dozens of companies import a lot of data into Salesforce ... this customer simply needed to consolidate their data into a single system.

As you know, this is one of XAware's strengths.

So how did it start?

With a full extrat of their Salesforce data, the customer was having trouble getting it to merge into their Microsoft Dynamics CRM. XAware's task was to import that data into two running instances of Dynamics - one premise-based and one hosted online. Of course, the tricky part was to minimize disruption to the users of the existing Dynamics systems while also accomplishing some data filtering and cleanup because, of course, no data set is ever perfectly ready for migration is it?

What was our approach?

We used our data integration software as the basis for moving the data and we accomplished the task in two separate phases - the first to load the extract files into a staging database, and the second to load that data into the two running configurations of Dymanics and then finally into the online instance of Dynamics CRM in the cloud.

We used Microsoft SQL Server, because it was available to us, for our staging database. We discovered that some of the longer note fields from Salesforce had to become multiple note fields in the Dynamics system, simply due to differences in accepted field lengths. We also discovered that it was necessary to filter some of the incoming fields from the extract files because those were no longer deemed useful in the target systems.

In the end?

It was a fast, successful, useful migration and the data is currently being accessed by the customer's user base. As a result, we've introduced our Cloud Connector solution, which you can read about here . When implementing this solution, we collaborate with you to understand your data prior to migrating it as we've discovered this is a highly important step to ensuring that the resulting business data is not only properly mapped but also filtered and transformed to meet the needs of the users and the target system.

The Cloud Connector solution provides several advantages over alternative migration approaches, so we hope you'll check out the details and contact us for information.
